Wonderful World, Beautiful People-- by Nathaniel (with pics and one edit from Shields)

Nathaniel on beach at Tembo Hotel
Today we went to Zanzibar. The trip to Zanzibar from Bagamoyo was very long. The kids on our trip sang the top hits of today and yesterday throughout the entire bus ride to the ferry. Boarding the ferry was full of hustle and bustle. When we arrived at Zanzibar, Ms.Sundberg  encouraged me to sneak pass customs. I was stopped by a large lady. [to be fair, we were in a line that seemed worthy of some problem-solving, and I also tried.  We both ended up back in line!]  Our hotel in Zanzibar is just as beautiful as our hotels in Dar es Salaam, and Bagamoyo.  Zanzibar, and Tanzania in general, possess a lot of natural beauty. Our group often times finds itself in awe of the sunsets and the night skies. Although, what I most enjoy about Zanzibar is talking to the people. The people in Zanzibar are friendly and genuinely curious about where we are from and why we are here. Also, observing the way people in Zanzibar live and interact with one another is very interesting. A lot of people are outside in public spaces interacting with and enjoying each other. I usually do not see people interact this way in D.C., taking time to be together.

  1. Great post! Glad to see you all have hats. Take lots of pictures of the sunsets. I wonder if your experience so far have been all that you anticipated and also what things have been different from what you were expecting. Take care, have fun, and be safe. Phronie
